Just like every pro league winning your conference or division is important. SOS is a stupid measure in a 12 game season because there is not enough data to get a good measurement. Case in point, Everyone thought the SEC was untouchable. Meanwhile aTm and Missouri were both average in the B12 but challenged for the SEC championship their first season in the conference. FSU had a bad SOS last year but was the best team in football. Does anyone question that Boise is good despite their regularly weak SOS? SOS is one of the most ridiculous measurements in all of football.
So in essence - if you just take conference champions the ridiculous SOS argument goes out the window. Everyone has a chance to prove themselves.
