I've been critical of Rose and his staff for not having enough 3pt
shooting on his teams since Fredette left. But man, Roy Williams seriously sucks at putting teams together anymore. Since they won their national title in 2008-09, they have only had one team shoot better than 34% from 3pt range. And that year's team capped out at 37% and only because it had two good long distance shooters that put up a ton of 3's. Their average has been around 33% and so far this year they sit at 27%.

UNC lost to Butler today, and again they are a roster of awkward pieces that don't fit together well and can't hit the 3. Marcus Paige is their only decent shooter, so when he has an off shooting game like he did today, they aren't going to beat very many teams no matter how many 4* and 5* recruits they have.

It is so weird to see an elite program with a guy who is a pretty good coach struggle so much with what should be one of their easier tasks at a school like UNC: bringing in the right mix of players through recruiting. Williams' system can't thrive unless it has a decent post scoring option and solid outside shooting. And yet it's like he's ignored the shooting issue for years.
