Granted, Gonzaga is great and St. Mary's is good, but there are a lot of bad teams in the WCC. That lack of competition, I believe, makes it harder to get better down the stretch.

The No. 1 seeded Gonzaga team a couple of years ago was as good as any team in the nation -- but they weren't as battle tested. The result is that the Zags almost lost in the first round of the NCAAs and failed to make it to the Sweet 16.

I hope I'm wrong this year.
