Sounds like the perfect opportunity for you to "take one for the team" and

stay at home with the little one watching a "terrible" game on tv while your wife and in laws can go out and enjoy a beautiful night looking at the Christmas lights.

RSV is a really crappy thing to deal with if it can be avoided. Cold weather/infant lungs never are a good combo.
