The workforce dynamics each faced are significantly different
Computers and the internet have been some serious game changers that Boomers and the previous generations didn't really face (collectively) as they were entering the workforce. X'ers were transitioning into the new era and if they were lucky enough to enter the information technology arena, they did reasonably well, whereas their classmates that opted for traditional fields like manufacturing were caught up on the wrong end of transition. Millenials grew up with computers, know of their importance, but at the same time, so many have been trapped by new unexplored electronic addictions and entitlements that previous generations didn't really deal with (and I suspect that had they had to deal with them, they likely would be acting the same ways).

Couple this with some of the worst economies, Generation Xer's as parents unequipped to face the challenges post-transition, and Millenials are ill-equipped to enter adulthood and getting hosed big time. The modern information age threw everyone a major curve ball and as a society, we are still trying to come to grips with it. A small minority recognize the opportunities and raise their children to seize them. The government, to its credit, is challenging youth in the STEM disciplines, but we still have a ways to go in dispelling the culture of entitlement. It may be a generation before we effectively transition as a society, but by then, we may be dealing with some other transformational technology and facing new challenges of transition (until we become more nimble at transitioning from new technology wave to new technology wave). Adaptation may be the biggest challenge collectively speaking between generations. In this respect, it's nice to have the stabilizing influence of the gospel with foundational principles that help provide a core foundation that serves as an anchor.
