The A's have the most unique fans in sports. Most are virtual. They don't go to games. They don't wear their favorite player's jersey.
The face of the franchise is Billy Beane. They spend far more time on fan sites trying to predict Beane's next move than talk about the big league team's game that day or the pennant race. SABR metrics are big for all baseball fans, but not to the degree of A's fans. And no other fan base looks at the GM as the face of the franchise.
I am one of the old school A's fans that needs somebody to root for, and I am not happy.
