I have always assumed (or known) that BYU being an LDS school was the real issue
utah and Colorado didn't get into the PAC 12 because they were better research institutions. Everyone knows that was a load of hogwash. From an athletic and academic standpoint BYU was and still is a superior option to utah. Anyone with a brain and being honest with himself knows full well why the PAC passed on BYU.
