You can do what I do with my Mother-in-Law
Every Thanksgiving, she insists on making pumpkin pie that isn't great. So when I get the other pies from the store, I slip in a pumpkin pie and feign forgetfulness that she was going to make the pumpkin pie. That way there are both options.
