I have been reading several posts on the basketball team and it has caused me to think about how Rose will handle the scholarship crunch that is coming. Looking ahead to next year it is obvious that something has to be subtracted.

1. Andrus ------- headed for a mission. I suspect that if Rose knew about Kaufusi he would be on that mission today

2. Aytes --------- Sophomore Power forward next season

3. Collinsworth ---- senior PG next season but the question is whether he stays or goes. Right now I would say he will be staying but if he gets the right projection he will be gone.

4. Davis ---- junior next season and another power forward next season

5. Fischer --- senior next year at the shooting guard

6. Kaufusi -- Sophomore Center

7. Neilson -- Sophomore Center

8. Nixon -- Sophomore forward but should be gone on a mission

9. Toolson - Sophomore shooting guard

10. Worthington -- Junior Center

11. Chatman -- Freshman (redshirt) guard

12. Emery ---- Freshman guard coming home from mission

13. Calvert --- Sophomore guard coming home from mission

14. Hartsock ----- Freshman forward coming home from mission

15. Shaw ----- Freshman forward coming home from mission

16. Bartley ---- Junior guard

17. Slejaas -- Freshman but not sure if he is going on a mission right away or at all.

If you assume that Andrus and Nixon go on missions that eases the scholarship crunch for next year and if Collinsworth leaves early it gives him the 13 players allowed for scholarships. But as I look at this roster I see Rose having to make some tough decisions. If Bartley does not improve enough to fit into the team's future plans he could be a transfer since he still has a red shirt year available. I am not sure that Calvert really makes a big contribution to the team, based on this play last year, and he might be another transfer. I think one of the reasons Rose is not red shirting players is it gets them further through their tenure on the team and still allows them the year if they need to transfer.

I think Rose might be looking for a true big man at the JC level if one of the big men currently on the team does not develop an offensive game by the end of the season. This will be the most pressing need for next season.
