Can we finally bury the "nepotism" talk with regards to Povey?
Povey could arguably be BYU's defensive Most Valuable Player this year (even if the defense was mediocre to poor many times, but still...). With so many of the "stars" of the defense hurt or injured for much of the season I thought Povey did a pretty good job of patching up the secondary wherever his services were needed and even turned out to be our leading tackler, which is pretty amazing coming from a safety/cornerback instead of the usual middle linebacker. Here's what the Des News said about him:

"PoVey himself has had to chip away and peck his way to a role as a starter, a leader, a key cog and presence. Once a walk-on, he will be sorely needed to quarterback BYU’s defense.

Yes, his brother-in-law Nick Howell is BYU’s defensive coordinator, but you don’t lead the team in tackles on politics. PoVey is by far the most prepared defensive Cougar in terms of film prep, knowledge of all 11 positions and assignments, and experience on the Cougar team right now.

'Skye is doing a good job,' said safety linebacker Teu Kautai. 'He’s making plays on the back end, he’s physical when he needs to be, and he’s good against the run. He’s a hard worker, he studies hard; he holds film sessions for us. He knows the whole defense, he knows every position.'"
