As a BSU fan (and alumnus) let me try to "explain Boise State"
First, it's not about Chris Petersen or Dan Hawkins or Dirk Koetter or Bryan Harsin. It's about the assistant coaches that those guys hire. Let me use Coach Pete as an example

Coach Pete had a great coaching staff in 2006. Without question the best O-line coach we've ever had was that year. His OC and DC were both 29 years old and first time coordinators, but there were more experienced coaches helping them learn the ropes. One of them is now our head coach, the other one is a DC at his second Pac-12 school.

Coach Pete didn't want to recruit the "too short and too slow" Kellen Moore. DC Justin Wilcox saw Kellen and told Pete he would give up a defensive recruit if Kellen didn't work out. Pete eventually offered Kellen a scholly and the rest is history.

Unfortunately after Wilcox and Harsin moved on to other opportunities, the replacement coaches were a step or two down - or many steps down in the case of Robert Prince, Pete's OC for the last two years.

BSU was 8-5 and going nowhere last year. Pete sees his chance and jumps to UW and in comes Coach Harsin with a new staff and new energy. Our QB (Hedrick) was turnover prone and hesitant last year and early this year but after a couple shaky games early in the year he settled down and played very well. He has said that OC Coach Sanford is the best QB coach he's ever had.

We see similar things at D-line, WR, DB (where at one point this season all 4 starting DBs were out in the same game) and even special teams.

My outsider's perspective is that those of you going after Bronco are targeting the wrong guy, but I understand why you'd be willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater so to speak. I think Bronco is an excellent coach -- and having talked to a friend that played for him, an even better person. I think his greatest shortcoming is that he has not surrounded himself with a really great coaching staff.
