I've supported Bronco and he's gotten us to this point, but I'm done with him.
The weird reports I hear from BYU Football Camps that Mendenhall tells the kids that they'll probably never play there (true, but unnecessary and hinders future supporters), reports of players going to BYU because they love BYU "despite" Coach Mendenhall (think Cody Wilstead), the 2 time-outs to what... ice the kicker on a PAT (YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING), his hire of a 2-whatever record high school coach that now is calling the plays for our defense (we finally mixed things up and got pressure on the QB at the end of this game, but this has been the story for a number of years), the tremendously high penalty count this year, losing to Utah and even Utah State more than the acceptable amount (Utah - every other year [to make it a true rivalry]; USU - 1 every 5-10 years), etc.

In at least this game (and probably more), Coach Anae ran a pass-play on 1st down, and a run-play on 2nd down nearly every time. Yes, execution is huge, but it helps when the defense has to stay honest. He ran the ball at some of the worst moments with time running out (what are you thinking... that you're going to catch them off guard?). When we were struggling to open the running lanes all game long, he ran the ball with tight receiver formations and pre-snap movement which just brought more defensive players into the box, and then it was a run up the center. He loves to run dives over and over. He loves to run dives on 3rd and short without our power back (i.e., with Hine).

Our defense seemed to get play calls in really late, and in this game, a number of times they were too late (as in, the play was already in motion).

I love BYU! I love BYU Football! But, I was embarassed by some of our coaches in this game. How many points came off of turnovers? How many turnovers were truly forced (I mean, the kickoff return fumble should've been recovered by their #40)? We had some great defensive turnovers, but we were given some gifts to simply keep us in the game. You can't depend on gifts to win and expect to win 9+ games. Yet with all of these issues that made for an ugly game, we still nearly came away with the win. I'll give them credit for instilling grit because they handled a number of gut checks really well.

This is my Christmas Wish List: I want a new HC; I want Anae and Howell gone; I would love to keep Bronco as a D. Coordinator (not probable); I also want to keep G. Holliday, Tu-Jay, Atuaia, Jason Beck, Poppinga, Kaufusi, Tidwell; I want Jordan Pendelton as the Strength & Conditioning Coach; I want Geoff Martzen to stay for another 5 years; I want another great Football Operations Director prodigy; AND, I want at least the new HC by Jan. 4 to get the new phase running.

I do not feel BYU should be considered a P5 football program yet, because we have not earned it. I do believe we have everything in place that makes it feel like a P5 school (robust, successful athletic program; ESPN contract; national/worldwide fanbase; own TV network; history of national championship, heisman, doak walker awards, etc.; sweet uni's; sweet facilities--for football at least), except for our recent on-the-field success. I mean, we're the 3rd best team in the STATE right now. Utah is becoming a well-reputable football state, but we should not be satisfied with this new relegation.

I'm ready to take that "leap of faith" to see what the future holds for us. If we become worse thats too bad, if we become better great, but I'm tired of this lukewarm feeling (it makes me want to spew it out of my mouth).

Okay, I'm done with my rant. I feel better, but those 2 TIME-OUTS (NOT simply 1 which was bizarre enough, but 2 TIME-OUTS) was my last straw.
