BYU's perception as a "dirty" program.
This tweet from Andy Glockner, who is not just some uninformed fan of another program raised a question in my mind:

Where does this "perception" come from? Taking off the blue goggles, I'm still not sure I believe that our players are somehow "dirtier" than others. Admittedly, I'm ashamed by the Kai Nacua sucker punch, and I definitely think he needs to be disciplined for it, but other than this incident--which I consider an aberration--what's the source of these claims?

My initial hypothesis is that it's the MWC nancies that got thrashed by BYU year after year (because these accusations are apparently geared at our football team) that simply hate BYU and allow their frustration with BYU to distort reality, or simply cling on to these incidents where a player loses control.

Alternatively, I could see it simply being that BYU is subconsciously being held to a higher standard by other fans; a personal foul or punch is 10x worse coming from a BYU player because of what the school represents?

Perhaps it's a mix of the two, but I'm wondering if I'm simply missing something more. I can completely understand the feeling that BYU is sanctimonious or obnoxious (especially for secular fans of other programs), but does BYU really over-index for "dirty" plays?
