I have zero personal experience on the subject but to me these funerals of fallen police officers have gotten a little out of hand. I'm not sure where the fine line is to properly pay tribute to these men and women with the pageantry and respect they deserve, but how big is too big? Thousands of people, security, politicians, media everywhere. I saw an article where the mayor of NYC spoke and many police officers at the funeral turned their back to him in protest. I have a problem with both of those things. First of all, the mayor didn't know the cop or his family, you'd hope he wouldn't use this platform for positive political pr but you can't help but be suspicious. And the cops turning their backs??? Hardly seems like the time or place to make a political statement distracting from the deceased. At my Dad's funeral we were of course very touched by all who came to pay their respects but if thousands of strangers, cameras, politicians, and cops who make political statements in the middle of the services were ther that would have been just too much to deal with on top of it already being the worst day of our lives.
