He was the exception and also hit a lot of shots while being guarded heavily...
...because there wasn't a set play for him but rather a force underneath and he figured out how to get it in the hoop. Noah Hartsock was also a great "post" player, but most of his shots were jump shots due to Rose's style of offense. If we're waiting for the next Brandon Davies before we can claim we have any offensive production in the post, we might be waiting a long time. It's tough to have good, offensive post production with few to no half-court sets.
