I thought that the sandstorm effect was a little unrealistic and too heavy. I'm not saying that the limited visibility was unrealistic, I've never been in a sandstorm, so I wouldn't know, but it was unrealistic the same way that old time movie rain effect (think the Church movie "Windows of Heaven") was unrealistic (if you don't know, they used to just put a blue filter on the film and scratch it a bunch of times so that it "looked" like rain. I thought that the sandstorm effect was pretty obvious post-production work, and not super well done (like the baby hand wasn't even good CGI).
I also thought that the sandstorm was too thick, and the scene a little too long. I couldn't tell what was going on at all, which would have been fine, but then then scene dragged out for (what seemed like) 5 minutes and got a little tiresome.
Otherwise, amazing movie. For emotional heft, best of the year.
