He can not recruit off campus. His duties are all on campus. Mailings, twitter posts, reviewing tape sent in by players to pass on to caoches, etc. When they come on campus, then he can host and meet with them, but not until then.
The face to face contact required at the schools and homes of players all has to be done by coaching staff, per NCAA rules. So he can tell the staff about the kids, but if the coaches don't do the legwork, that isn't his fault.
The main complaints we are seeing have zero to do with his job description and are everything to do with what the coaches actually have to do--show up to visit kids, make them feel loved by BYU. And I can understand why some coaches do not love that part of it, but guess what? IF everyone else is and you are not, you;re only hurting your own program. Just how the game is played.
