Statement is more a reflection on where BYU is right now, not an actual prediction. However, if people would have told me in during the McBride years that within 10 years BYU wouldn't be able to compete with the U and they'd be in the PAC12 and BYU would be left outside looking in, I would have laughed at them too. Point is, current trends are not encouraging, fans are looking for other ways to spend their money, it's going to take a serious course correction to prevent this slide into irrelevancy.
