When I went to BYU, I remember they were having a problem with the circuit
breaker popping for the drinking fountains on the top floor of the Clyde building. After some inspection, they found a 60V difference in ground between the first floor and the 4th floor, which was causing the 4th floor ones to draw a bunch more current. They had to do a major overhaul of the power system in the building (especially because of how many computers were plugged in on the 4th floor).

I doubt you are going to have something that severe, but that's the only electrical issue that I can think of that might cause something like this.
