It sure seems like incandescent bulbs don't last as long as they used to.
When we bought our house 14 months ago the previous tenants (the previous owners had rented it out prior to our purchase) took a lot of the light bulbs with them when they moved out. I had to replace dozens of bulbs and ended up buying mostly LEDs, but I also bought a few CFLs and incandescent bulbs too.

The incandescent bulbs only lasted about 6-9 months. I don't remember replacing bulbs that often growing up. My theory is they make them burn out more quickly now so that you'll want to buy LEDs .

The CFLs that I bought at the same time are starting to fail too. Two of them completely burned out last week and two more are dim. I kept the packaging and receipts and I'll take them back to Home Depot this week for an exchange. I've done that several times now. I'm sorry Home Depot, if your package says your bulbs last nine (LOL) years and they crap out after 12-18 months, I'm taking them back. Besides, the two that burned out were in our walk-in closet so it's not like they were being used for long periods of time.

All of the LED bulbs I bought 14 months ago are still going strong. I don't believe they'll last 20+ years like they claim, so I've kept the packaging and receipts and I'll take them back if they fail.
