Officials
I know most on this board consider themselves experts on officiating but they are not robots. Every official is an individual and views the game differently than someone else. Each conference coordinator stresses different things in how to officiate the games in their conference. For years the ACC was considered a touch league where hand checking was called very closely. They then realized when they went to the tournament the games would be called looser. Both the Big East and the Big Ten were very physical. So the ACC adapted and began to allow more physical play in their games.

In the past few years there has been a strong effort to try and bring some uniformity on how to call the college game. In our last game we saw a controversial block/charge call (I thought he had it wrong) that some on the board said they should go back to the old rule. I can tell you that under the old rule 90% would have called it a block because the mindset was to "protect the shooter". The arc under the basket was added to further clear up some of the block/charge calls. This call still remains the most difficult one for any official. In summer clinics it is a mainstay to show officials 10 of these calls and ask them to write down what they would have called. They are all close ones and the opinion of the officials watching them is always split.

In our win over San Francisco Thursday I thought the game was officiated pretty consistent on both sides yet there is always the obligatory posters who have to tell us how crappy the officiating is in the game and the conference. Many of them long for the officials of the MWC and yet the complained about them as well.

The truth is you can never please fans because they view every game through the prism of their team. That is never going to change and once you accept that you can accept fans complaining.
