I wish we could keep religion out of it. I fit into the same category as your friend, and I love BYU deeply. The use of Utah by non lds or inactive members as a vehicle to publicly show an opposition to church standards, leadership, beliefs or quite simply because they feel slighted saddens me.
I hated going out with friends and listening to ignorant comments about my personal faith or something else completely irrelevant to college sports.
I wish fans weren't so insecure or worried what "the other guy" is doing or they way they worship.
Yeah, I make choices that directly contradict my faith, but I don't let my feelers get hurt when someone says something about my perceived hypocrisy.
I hope your friend never goes down the religious hate path, it only hurts him.
I don't mind that I don't fit in with the majority of our fan base, I freaking love BYU and I always will.
