It's in the same line as hovering parents. They don't help. Ever. They just distract. Good sports parents are the ones who show up and cheer and stay out of the way the rest of the time.
Good former athletes are the ones who maybe throw out some pointers in the off season when the team isn't trying to focus on the game at hand, not insert themselves in to a very regimented pre-game schedule. They haven't sat through game prep on that opponent. They haven't sat through the offensive or defensive game plans. If they were only seen and not heard...perhaps. But just having them there takes focus away from what each player should be focusing on and replaces it with seeing an old friend who just happens to know what works better than the coaches so maybe ignore 2J when he says this because that's not the way they teach it in the NFL...
Former athletes can be just as much arm chair QB's as fans. Just don't. Your day passed. It's their day now. Don't do anything that takes their mind away from their day...
