Ah, makes more sense why they would get a straight answer
I totally believe that some deaths can be prevented by wearing a helmet. I think in most cases the doctor says "we don't know if it would have saved the child" simply to spare the family the grief, in the same way they would be more likely to say that a death was quick or painless even if it might not have been.
