Think Ammon Olson & Billy Green wish that they didn't transfer about now?
"Grass is greener". Just never know when an opportunity can come your way. Right now BYU is reduced to asking a former player (Christian Stewart) to throw for Spring ball because there simply aren't enough QB's that can fully participate, partly because the QB's that were supposed to be in the pipleline as scholarship players transferred last year (Ammon Olson, & Billy Greene). Not one scholarship QB is on the roster that can fully participate (Taysom Hill is limited).

Sincerely, my hat is off to Christian Stewart. He's not getting paid, and by participating in spring ball, it is taking away from his own time and building his own future, which doesn't include football. Yet, the kid has enough respect for the program and love for his brothers that he is willing to be of service to them.

This, a midst all the stories of former players bashing the program for not doing enough for them, etc. Not going to call out names, but so many former "greats"... all they can talk about is how terrible the current program is under current leadership, etc. But I tell you, it's a breath of fresh air to see a former player give back to his Alma mater rather than talk about how BYU is disrepecting them, etc. Stew is a builder, helping his former program to build and get better, rather than just criticizing from the sideline.

"If Lavell were here.... " "If I could only get into that locker room." "If my former coaches would only call me more often." "If the coaches only gave my son a chance to play, and didn't disrespect me." Not discounting completely their angst and disgruntlement. But guess what, former BYU "greats". Its not about you anymore. Its about the program, and building a new generation of young people, giving them opportunities to grow and be contributors, and giving back in constructive ways. Take a page from Christian Stewart's, Ty Detmer's, Steve Young's (and other like-minded builders) book please.

As a former combat infantryman who saw a lot of combat in Iraq and put his life on the line every day, I'll tell you that there were so many Americans that said "SOMEbody needs to protect our country." when 9-11 happened. Well guess what? We are a volunteer nation. I chose to serve and be a builder rather than wait for others to fight for my rights, or for my country to do something for me. I give props to Christian Stewart for being a fellow volunteer with zero hope of remuneration, compensation or personal gain in any way other than giving back and serving. You count as an honorary veteran in my book with that attitude Mr. Stewart.

C. Stewart is going to be a success in life at whatever he does based on what I'm seeing. Its not about what your program/country can do for you. You know the rest.
