Kids don't really buy music the way people used to. They listen on youtube and streaming services. (I do too, actually). So, Adele, for example, sold a lot in some part because she appeals to an older crowd that still actually buys albums. Artists that appeal only to the younger audience will be seen historically as the defining artists of their generation, but they will increasingly not be measured in album sales.
