If you've got that kind of connection, the wifi will be the slowest link.
There are so many things that affect your wifi speed that it's very difficult to ever get close to the ideal speed. Other electronics in the house, including things like microwaves, can drastically affect your speed by interfering with the signal.

A quick explanation of how wifi works may help. It gets a little technical, but it should be easy enough to understand.

When you're connecting to a server on the internet, the data sent back and forth is split up into smaller chunks known as "packets". Each packet is independent, and will do its best to get to its destination as quickly as possible.

On wifi, if two packets (from different devices) are being sent at the same time, they interfere with each other, and the router can't tell what either one was. Since the router doesn't confirm reception of the packet, both devices try to re-send their packet after a random delay. If they keep on running into interference (whether from other devices, or just from electronics that are messing with their packets), they'll keep lengthening the delay until they're able to successfully reach the router.

If your device is having trouble getting its packets through to your router (and on to the server you're connecting to), your device will slow down the speed at which it tries to send packets. This results in your effective speed being far below what you expect it to be.

With a wired network, your router talks to each device individually, and so they never interfere with each other. The rated (ideal) speed is also much higher, at least 100mbps, but more likely 1Gbps.

In short, there are lots of things that can reduce your wireless speed, and you'll always get a better connection with wired.
