to have both Mountain and Central time zones keep the same time on a daylight savings time change date, have Eastern fall back an hour (so they are now the same time as Central), and have Pacific spring forward an hour (so they are the same as Mountain). Then we never change the clocks again, and there are only 2 time zones in the country and a 1 hour time difference between NYC and CA.

As a resident in CA, I don't think I would like the super early sunrises and sunsets, and east coasters might not like the late sunrise and sunset. But there does seem to be some economic benefit of having working hours line up so much across the country.

This was modeled from China- it spans what would be 5 time zones, but they are all on the same time. The remote parts of western China must have some pretty screwy sunrise and sunset times.
