People have gone both ways on this issue. I am not an apple fan however
both platforms are excellent. Here is my somewhat objective opinion.

First...Early on the iPhone was head and shoulders better than Android. This is no longer the case. The fact is is that they are only similar in that they are both touchscreen smartphones. Where Apple still leads is in its overall simplistic UI. iphone users say, "IT just works" and they are right. The iPhone does work. And if you are invested in the app store heavily, you will find yourself spending alot of money getting the android version of your apps.

Where Android thrashes the iPhone is in the ability to customize your user experience. You can do just about anything with your android device. Widgets on Android are much better than on the iphone. I have a homescreen that has a calendar and a to-do task list (Google Keep). I have a main home screen that has my most used shortcuts to apps, and then a third home screen with other commonly used apps as well as some direct dial shortcuts of a few family members. I use a 3rd party launcher which allows me to do this. My third party launcher (Nova) allows for icon theme packs, so I can change the look of my phone whenever I feel like it.

Finally I have to say that Android v 5.1 is every bit as aesthetically pleasing as IOS. It is gorgeous.

One more thing. The best thing about Android is the fact that you have so many diifferent choices on form factor. Phones as large as the Note and the Nexus 6 and then phones that get smaller. I personally have the Moto X 2nd gen and it is the best Android device I have had. Vanilla android with a few Motorola customizations that are amazingly useful. I went through motorola and bought the "pure" edition for t-mobile and I ordered one with a wood back. It is sweet.

So, I hope this helps.
