Lots of causes for ADHD...
... and stimulants aren't the answer for everybody.

How old is your kid and how's her sleep? In my own practice, I've seen several kids diagnosed with ADHD who really had sleep-disordered breathing/OSA. Address the sleep issue and the "ADHD" goes away. They can actually pay attention to something for more than 5 minutes because they aren't being woken up 10 times/hour at night because they can't breathe. This is not the only cause of distracted kids, but it is something I encounter on a regular basis. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17157069

Point is, if your kid isn't getting "better" with standard therapy for ADHD, maybe ADHD isn't the right diagnosis...
