The Allies were being led by weak leaders in that Churchill was unpopular at home and FDR was very feeble. FDR also considered Stalin a friend and didn't think he would be taken advantage of. When Truman came on the scene, he was just woefully underqualified to handle international matters. It was basically a perfect storm that led to Russia being given way too much leeway.
