It's a very good trail bike and I like Kawasaki bikes in general. Mine have all been very solid and cost less than the others.
A motocross bike will be lighter, won't be geared as well for serious trail riding (and will have a lighter flywheel), and won't have a headlight or electric start. However, for what you're talking about, a motocross bike would be just fine and perhaps even preferable to a trail bike. For desert riding, jumping, and recreational trail use, a motocross bike will be great unless you really want a headlight or electric start. The other differences only come into play if you want to do really tight technical stuff. But even then, I know some guys who ride motocross bikes just fine in those areas as well.
