I actually agree with them to a point.
I spent a lot of time on a KTM 350 XCF-W last summer and it was fab.
The reason people like the smaller displacements is that for many big bore bikes can be too powerful for the trail. They spin wheels at inopportune moments while the smaller engine will put out plenty of power but not do crazy things when you grab too much throttle.
Also the weight helps the handling.
