The Supreme Court may take up a case as to whether or not a school violated student's 1st Amendment Rights when said students were punished for wearing shirts with the American Flag on it. The students wore the shirts on "Cinco de Mayo" in protest against the Mexican holiday at school. The school says the shirts were provocative in nature. Weird to think your flag would tick off people in your own country.
However I think the real issue here is Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo was a battle in Mexico in 1862 where the Mexicans repelled the French. This would be similar to us having a big holiday for the Battle of New Orleans. ..cool battle but insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Cinco de Mayo was picked by some beer companies as a way to promote beer....and has now sprung into what some would think was Mexico's independence day....which is actually in September. So the real issue here is we are fighting over a beer promoted holiday of all things.
