I appreciate the vision TH had when he first announced independence
One of the first things he said when the Q&A started was that he asked for the patience of fans. He said right there that the first few years of scheduling would be sub-par compared to their goals, and that after that they planned to have an exciting schedule for fans.

So far, we can see a clear trend in which every two-year scheduling period has gotten better than the prior 2-year period even though other obstacles have gotten in the way that people didn't expect (Utah cancelling the series, Notre Dame bailing on their contract, P12 initially not playing us in Oct/Nov, ACC and SEC initially making a P5 requirement that didn't include BYU as an exception, etc.):

2011-2012: WAC opponents in the bulk of the schedule
2013-2014: Higher quality schedule, more top programs, but mostly on the road and at the beginning of the year
2015-2016: Even better quality, more P5 programs than ever, but still mostly on the road or neutral locations. Some bigger teams playing post-September
2017-2018: ~6 P5 programs per year, and many of them at home, and roughly half of them post-September. Still slightly front-heavy, and bowl situation still "meh"
2019-2010: TBD, but looks like it's at least as good as 2017-2018.
