With the passing of Hot Rod Hundley this past week. I wanted to do a small tribute to a man that I listened to on the Radio and watched on TV for more years that I can remember.
Growing up in Utah, and following the Jazz from their First playoff series win in 1984 against the Nuggets, to the Finals in 97' and 98'. Hot Rod was the one that we listened to. With has catch phrases that always pulled me into every game. He was the voice of the Utah Jazz for so many years that when he left it was hard to listen to games on the radio and TV. So many great Jazz memories from my childhood are not complete without Hot Rod saying:
“With a gentle push, and a mild arc, the old cowhide globe hits home.”
"Hippity-hop”
"Tickling of the Twine"
“Stockton to Malone”
"Leapin’ leaner”
"A Hammer by The Mailman"
"You gotta love it, baby!”
He was a legend for me and countless other Jazz Fans... It is amazing how the voice of one man can bring up so many positive memories for so many Jazz fans throughout the years. You will me missed Hot Rod. Thanks for giving me some great memories that I will not forget in my lifetime.
Nice tweet from Bob Huggins...
