i'm not saying ALL guys that played in the 80's or 90's are dumb, but many of them are still stuck in their 80's/90's mentality. The game is very different now. GM's look at things like analytics -- guys like Chris Webber see analytics as a threat to their expertise (in reality it is a compliment to his expertise). These types think if you are a big man and don't have a great back to the basket game that you stink. Smart NBA teams don't want to feed the post like teams used to back in the day. It is a ball screen league. You don't have to have great post moves. If you can pass out of the post, stretch the floor a bit, and catch and finish in traffic that is a LOT better than an old fashioned back to the basket guy who doesn't roll to the basket, pass very well or stretch the floor. Yes, having a back to the basket game is a nice skill to have and can be very useful, but there is more than one way to score a basket as a big man, and more and more NBA teams want that basket scored in the highest efficiency which is rarely a simple post up.
