I think the most interesting point of the story is the Bishop Roulette theme. That part hits home to me because I had a terrible bishop at BYU who revoked my endorsement for almost no other reason except he could. I was lucky to have connections and after some a stressful period of time the problem went away, but many are not so lucky.
Personally, I think every time an ecclesiastical endorsement is revoked, it should go before the university prior to a student being expelled.
