I may be transitioning jobs

and my new employer doesn't have a life plan built-in. After discussing it with them they seemed open to raising their offer to cover a life insurance plan. If I could raise the offer to cover a universal plan would that be preferable to term? Just imagine I'm you typical 34 yr old BYU fan with a couple of kids.
