If you want to be a legend forever, you have to die while you are famous.
The worst thing you can do is let your star fade into obscurity. At that point, you'll just have to wait until it's ironically cool to like you again. For instance, Scott Stapp from Creed is staring down the barrel of a long 20 years right now.

It's true though. Kurt Cobain would probably be in car commercials were he still alive today. Chris Farley would be in super sad direct to Netflix movies like his pal Adam Sandler (whose name at one point in his career was money in the bank and is now a hiss and a byword).

I bet the guy from Nickelback is kicking himself that he didn't overdose like 7-8 years ago.
