Honolulu side for a few days and then north shore the rest of the time
If you stay Honolulu side, stay at Ko'olina. It's a nice resort and more isolated from Waikiki. Not as pretty though since its leeward side. It's a good staging point though to hit all the tourist sites in town.
Then go to the north shore the rest of the time for R&R.
