The only was to get it is to sell your house. And you need a place to live, so you're not going to do that. Assuming you get the same rate of return (ie, gain the same in investing as you save in interest on paying the mortgage), the investment is the way to go because you can retrieve it for emergencies in a quicker time frame without altering your life.
