I suspect that you don't know much about the school. I represented them for several years after they changed. GCU was owned by the Baptist foundation for over 50 years. In 2003 there was an emergency board meeting in November where it was announced that they would close the school since the foundation would no longer financially support the school. An LDS member of the board was upset that the kids attending would be just cut adrift. He put together a group of investors and purchased the school. The only way they could accomplish this and keep it open the following semester was to make it a for-profit-school.

GCU has since invested about $200M in their campus with new dorms, a new arena, new classrooms, etc... They have a strong on line division (just like BYU) and 90% of their on line students are working on a masters degree. They are most likely teachers and have to keep progressing. Their main focus is education and nursing programs. They serve an underserved community in west Phoenix.

They have a lower student loan default rate than both ASU and AU. They also have a higher gainful employment number than a lot of public universities. So when you make a comment that they are joke I would like you to cite the information and statistics that brought you to that conclusion.

Right now they are in the process of taking the school back to non-profit status and the board is committed to the continued growth of the school. We no longer represent them as we were hired during the fight over for-profit schools and they were being lumped in with beauty schools and the like. Even Senator Harkin, the most ardent opponent of for-profit schools, admitted they were not the target and we had to structure the regulations to ensure that schools like GCU were not impacted negatively.
