the parents:

1. "I don't know when the SAT is. Nobody around here needs to take that anyway."
2. "[Insert student name] shouldn't go to college. He should just start working [insert entry level blue collar job] right out of high school."

With respect to #2, I'm not knocking those who want to do that and choose it. I'm saying I've heard people tell me they were discouraged from going to college by counselors. And these are people with good grades and test scores.
