Troy Adams has a very interesting take on conference realignment - including B12
Troy Adams calls these "fun facts":

B1G has 13 AAU schools which compares to the Pac 10 1/2's - 8, ACC - 5, SEC - 4, and B12 - 3. Troy speculates that if the B1G expands, it will continue with its current blueprint and approach schools that state line border the current B1G states. This would mean UVA and Kansas could be possibilities. However since both belong to "Grant-of-Rights" conferences, either can't leave until the TV contracts expire.

Pac 10 1/2 8 AAU's include Arizona, Cal, Col, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and UW. He predicts these schools will stay put with any conference realignment. He does not see the Pac 10 1/2 expanding. However, with the challenges of the geographic footprint of the conference and if in five years TV market size is a driver, they could expand through inviting...discussed below

SEC 4 AAU's include Vanderbilt, Florida, Texas A&M, and Missouri. While the SEC is the only conference without a "grant-of-rights" they really don't need one - who is going to leave? Troy see's only Vanderbilt as the lone school that could possibly defect to the B1G.

ACC 5 AAU's schools include Duke, GT, Pittsburgh, UNC, and UVA. It is interesting how Troy eliminates any possible poaching of the ACC by the SEC. He feels the SEC wants to remain in the South East region and would avoid poaching schools in states where the SEC already has a footprint. This then eliminates all ACC schools with the exceptions of NC State and Wake Forest. Troy does not see the SEC poaching these two schools. Thus the ACC should remain in tact.

B12 3 AAU's schools include Texas, Kansas, and ISU. Troy feels once the TV contracts expire the B12 could "IMPLODE." With the disparity involving Texas revenues, he suggests that OU and OSU could defect to the SEC. If this happens, the Pac 10 1/2 would jump on Texas and TT, while trying again to add OU and OSU. In the event of an implosion, ISU will use influence of Iowa to get admittance into the B1G - IMO this fails. Then the question becomes what happens to those B12 schools left out???

Personally, I could see the remaining schools IMO: Kansas, KSU, ISU, Baylor, TCU, and WV looking to add BYU, BSU, Houston, CSU, UConn, SDSU, UCF, and USF forming a 14 school conference. Whether or not this new conference would receive P5 status is another story. IMO this conference would be solid in football and basketball. I could see this conference being consistently in the Bowl of 6. I could see this conference being a consistent three to four bid NCAA conference (Kansas, BYU, UConn, and SDSU), while being solid in the other Olympic sports.

Anyway, I found it to be interesting that Troy Adams suggests the B12 will implode. The article is found on Loyal Cougars's website, titled Conference Realignment Fun Facts
