For kids that age the Wii U has far more game options.

It does not play Blue Ray disks though... although as it is the MUCH less expensive option, you can get a dedicated BR player and still come in under cost of an xBone or PS4.

It also has off-TV play on the gamepad that could help avoid potential viewing conflicts.
