I had a great moment last night at about 3AM or so.
My little 1 year-old daughter had been awake since about 1AM crying. My wife and I had taken turns rocking her in a chair while she alternated between screaming and laughing/wanting to play. My wife took a much bigger share than I did, but neither of us could sleep regardless.

After a couple of hours of that, I recognized how much more pleasant it is to be kept awake at night with a baby than a teenager. Rocking a baby in a comfortable chair under a blanket is relaxing. Missing sleep isn't fun, but at least it's not stressful.

My teenagers no longer live with me and I haven't had either of them in my house overnight since they moved out last January. I do miss seeing them every day, but I definitely sleep better at night without worrying about them getting in trouble while I'm trying to sleep.

I hope she doesn't sleep well tonight either. I've got another 3 years before I have a teenager again and I'd like to enjoy peaceful sleep loss a little more before the bad stuff starts again.
