Stanford recruiting Frank Jackson and Gavin Baxter hard
Stanford coach Johnnie Dawkins was in Utah last week to watch Frank Jackson and Gavin Baxter practice at their high schools. Stanford has already offered Jackson and is showing a lot of interest in Baxter.

Johnnie Dawkins played at Duke, was a first round NBA draft pick, and played as a guard in the league for nine years. Dawkins can sell himself as a coach who can prepare a guard for a career in the NBA--something Frank is looking for.

Jackson and Baxter are good friends and have played together on the same AAU team for the last three years. Teams realize that they can increase the likelihood of signing both of them if they have a package deal. Arizona State offered both Jackson and Baxter. I expect Stanford to do the same in the next few weeks with an offer to Baxter.

The possibility that Jackson may receive an offer and sign with Duke is good news for BYU in the sense that it makes it much more likely that Baxter will end up at BYU. If Jackson ends up signing with Stanford that would greatly increase the chance that Baxter would be offered by Stanford and join his good friend there. I think the chances of Jackson coming to BYU are about 10%, but about 40% at Stanford.

For those who are holding out hope that both Jackson and Baxter will sign at BYU, I think we will be lucky if we end up with just Baxter at BYU.
