Credit for a creative idea, but probably too early
Games on Netflix won't show up in sports bars, restaurants, hotels, etc. It's still a subscription only service with far less sports market penetration than ESPN. BYU, right now, needs to do whatever it can to rebrand itself as a P5 indy like ND. Signing a deal with Netflix is a little too much like the MWC did when it left ESPN and signed with CSTV. It sounded innovative and bold at the time, but it led to BYU being ultimately relegated to sports media outer darkness.

BYU is in a very good place with ESPN and will likely see a nice increase in the next contract. If, for some reason, the deal with ESPN were to fall apart, BYU already has its own network. I could see BYU developing what it has and individually syndicating games before signing an exclusive with a subscriber only streaming service. When BYU first made the decision to go independent, the school was ready to pull the trigger with only BYUtv and syndication. The money being offered to buy games from BYU wasn't far off from what BYU ended up getting from ESPN. No desperation needed right now for BYU in regard to media exposure and dollars.
