I voted to go biglaw, but I can't really feel good about that answer.
I'm about 10 years out now. I went straight to work for the gov't (and recently switched to go to a small firm). I never practiced in biglaw, but know several people who have. I will say that their experience is 100%, universally negative. I do not know a single person who enjoyed it or had even a single positive thing to say about it.

That being said, it's an unmatched springboard. So, to get with the feds, or to go in-house at the company of your choosing, it may just necessary.

The trick is to really, really, really be sure that you don't get stuck. Don't get golden-handcuffed. Go into it with a three (or so) year plan to get out.

A quick anecdote from a good friend who wound up at one of the biggest of the biglaws in the world. After a couple years, a rough paraphrase of his experience was, "I want to quit more than anything in the world. I hate my life and I feel like I'm dying every day. But then every month they bring a dump truck full of money and pour it in my driveway and I don't quit." Eventually everything worked out for him. He stayed several years but then made his way in-house at a good company. Lost a little $$, but not too much and has a better life now.
